This is the Stryker Stair Chair Pro.  It is a piece of equipment that has been on our ambulances for many years, but not very well known to the public.  In EMS, when people call us for help it is typically not a patients best day.  There are many times in which EMS crews are faced with complex situations which require a unique solution.  This is where the stair chair comes into play.

Often we find ourselves in situations where it is either impossible or not safe to get our cot into a patients home or up a flight of stairs.  Taking a heavy ems cot up a flight of stairs just isn’t safe and puts our crews and our patients at such a dangerous risk.  Some times narrow hallways of older homes and mobile homes prevent us from getting our cot beside our patients.  There are times when it’s not safe or feasible for crews to manually lift and carry a patient.

The stair chair offers a solution to these problems.  The stair chair is mobile and versatile.  It has folding tracks that allow us to safely guide a patient up and down flights of stairs.  The patient restraint system keeps our patients safe and secure during moving.  The wheel system on the stair chair allows crews to maneuver small hallways and tight spaces with ease.  The retractable handles allow crews to remain in control of the stair chair and patient while keeping the crews safe by being able to lift in a safe manner.

These units have proven to be an invaluable resource on our ambulances.
